Don´t Ask Why

as I grow old
I´m running scared
of why?-answers

which principally fall
into three different
categories only:

‘because God is great
and I love you so’;
‘because the world is nuts
and who are you anyway’;
‘because I honestly
don´t know’

with two out of three
being so devastating
why do I keep on asking?

The Myspace Blues

Get a million e-mails a day
Get a million e-mails a day
Get a million e-mails a day
But not one I can trust
Contains the words I long to hear.

Got a million followers on Twitter
(Come on, you know the next two lines –
Or have you forgotten how to sing the blues?)
But tonight I´m as lonely
As a blind night owl.

Got a million pics on Facebook
Got a million (OK, you can put in
My Space if you like)
But the pretty girl next door
Don´t know my name
She don´t know who I am.

Shades of Married Life

there are moments when
our search is over
and some when it´s
just begun

there are times when
we have each other
times when we
haunt each other

nights filled with lights
and hazy days
lyrical ways and
fierce prose ways

and all the
in-betweens.

Picking up the Pieces

when you´re young
you´re always running round
you shout, you play, and you believe
it´s all for free, it´s all a game,
it doesn´t really matter

when you grow old
you realize you were
drawing a circle around yourself
shedding symbols at random
beginning to lose track

needless to say
I´ll spend the rest of my life
within that circle –
don´t disturb me with the presence of now,
I´m busy picking up the pieces.

One of God´s Movies

God is the movie
you´ll watch at the
end of your life:
mesmerized, glued
to your hot inner
screen

you shoot all
the relevant pictures,
you cut them down to size,
yet you can´t
rewrite the dialogues,
nor recast the characters

not exactly a box-office
record, rather a
minority-of-one show,
it´s only fair
the emotional costs
of the production
are entirely at
your own expense.
